music of the great lakes

The Great Lakes region plays a central role in American history and culture. Lakes Erie, Huron, Michigan, Ontario, and Superior create the largest freshwater system in the world, directly impacting the lives and livelihoods of American communities and capturing the imaginations of millions of individuals.

American Wild Ensemble has commissioned a program of new works honoring our Great Lakes, written by composers who have special and lasting connections with this region. This collection of works reflects on the inspiration of the natural and built world around these incredible lakes, sharing unique perspectives on places that carry great significance in each of the composers’ own personal histories.
